Hey there, this is Doctor Bob Vaughn from Catalyst Chiropractic and Rehab here in Blaine, Minnesota. Today I want to talk about something that comes up almost every single day in my practice — the myths and misconceptions people have about chiropractic care. And honestly, some of these myths actually keep people from getting help that could really change their lives.
So let’s bust a few of these right now.
Myth number one — once you go to a chiropractor, you have to go forever. I hear this one all the time. And look, I get it. Nobody wants to sign up for endless appointments. Here’s the truth. You don’t have to do anything. My job is to help you feel better and move better. For some people, that happens in just a few visits. Maybe you tweaked your back moving furniture, we get you sorted out, and you’re done. Other folks feel so much better that they choose to come in periodically for maintenance, kind of like getting your car serviced. But that’s your choice, not mine. I’m not in the business of creating dependency. I’m in the business of getting you back to doing what you love.
Myth number two — chiropractic adjustments are dangerous. This one really bothers me because it keeps people suffering when they don’t have to. The reality is that chiropractic care is one of the safest treatments available for back pain and neck pain. Serious complications are incredibly rare. We’re talking less than one in several million adjustments. Compare that to the risks of long term pain medication use or surgery. Now, you might hear a popping sound during an adjustment, and that can seem scary. But that’s just gas bubbles releasing from the joint. It’s the same sound your knuckles make when you crack them. Nothing’s breaking, nothing’s damaged. In fact, most people feel immediate relief.
Myth number three — chiropractors aren’t real doctors. Okay, deep breath on this one. I spent four years in undergraduate school and then another four years in chiropractic college. That’s over forty five hundred hours of classroom and clinical education. We study anatomy, physiology, neurology, radiology, diagnosis, and rehabilitation. I take continuing education every single year to stay current. Are we medical doctors? No. We don’t prescribe drugs or do surgery. But we are portal of entry physicians, which means you can see us directly without a referral. We’re trained to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions. And if something’s outside my scope, I’ll refer you to the right specialist. It’s all about getting you the right care.
Here’s what I want you to take away from this. Chiropractic care is safe, effective, and evidence based. It’s not some fringe treatment. It’s mainstream conservative care for pain and movement problems. If you’ve been putting off getting help because of something you heard or read online, I really encourage you to ask questions. Call our office. Come in for a consultation. Let’s talk about your specific situation.
And if you’re dealing with back pain, neck pain, headaches, or just not moving the way you used to, we’d love to help you here at Catalyst Chiropractic and Rehab in Blaine. Don’t let myths keep you stuck. Give us a call and let’s figure out what’s going on together. Thanks for listening, and I’ll catch you on the next episode.
